hear/download a free preview of this release at: http://weaselwalter.bandcamp.com/track/carps-daemon (PLAY LOUD!) A powerful, articulate improvised music release by this meeting of new generation West and East Coast American musicians. This quartet explores the outer limits of technique and abstraction while delivering serious impact. Scowl consists of more than 50 minutes of free improvised music by a quartet featuring trumpeter Nate Wooley, pianist Scott R. Looney, bassist Damon Smith and drummer Weasel Walter. The ensemble's music is a distinct sum total of four unique perspectives, drawing on a a wide palette of musical possibilities, dynamics and timbres. The music is fast, clearly delineated, compact and well-orchestrated, drawing from the sound vocabularies of 20th and 21st Century New Music forms. The recording is excellent and is best heard at robust volume on stereo speakers, just like in the good old days of high-fidelity. For fans of Bill Dixon, Evan Parker and Mats Gustafsson . . . ABOUT BALANCE POINT ACOUSTICS

The balance point acoustics is a record label and presenting organization focused on documenting the music of double bassist Damon Smith (unfortunately, freejazzeconomics prevents this scope from widening!) in a variety of live and recorded settings. We are also distributing Tony Bevan's foghorn label on a small level. We started in June 2001 and now have a catolog of 4 cds featuring transatlantic collaborations between U.S. and European improvisers. All releases have liner notes written by bass players and feature fine art on the covers, as well as graphic desgin by alan anzalone and carol genetti. At present, though unplanned, the releases all feature low winds (tuda, bass saxophone, bass and contrabass clarinets) in addition to double bass BPA has thousands of ideas for productions featuring other artists besides Smith, should funds become available, so, we are not accepting proposals for cd's or concerts, material, etc. Sorry.
